Welcome America! Returns to Center City This Summer

The lineup for this year's Welcome America! celebration has something for everyone.

That's one way of putting it, anyway. We might file it under 'All Over the Map' or 'A Bunch of People You'll Never See Together Again,' but don't mind us; we just can't bear seeing Hall without Oates.

Anyway, besides Daryl Hall, you can look forward to getting out of the apartment and seeing The Roots, Queen Latifah, Common, and Joe Jonas.

As usual, Welcome America! is free and runs June 25-July 4.

The Barnes Foundation Gallery Opens This May In Philadelphia

In case you didn't already know: in May the Barnes Foundation gallery opens at its new home on Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia's Art Museum district.

Never heard of the Barnes Foundation? It's a unique and important cultural organization established in Lower Merion by Albert C. Barnes in 1922. Barnes collected paintings by then-active modernist masters like Picasso and Van Gogh. The space was intended primarily as an educational site. The public was allowed in the Main Line gallery just two days a week, while students could visit more frequently. The collection has always been important for gathering treasured works of art; the gallery was notable, too, for its unique arrangement and curation.

After skirmishes in Pennsylvania courts and a major fundraising effort lasting several years, the Barnes Foundation gallery will finally open its new Benjamin Franklin Parkway location on May 19th, giving Philadelphia city-dwellers better ability to see this important and unique collection! Last week, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that tickets for the gallery's first week were going fast. To learn more about the opening of the Barnes Foundation's Philadelphia gallery, click here.
